2026 Jeep Wrangler Willys Trim Guide

2026 Jeep Wrangler Willys Trim Guide

If you like the idea of a Wrangler Sport or Sport S but you really want the off-road hardware to match the look, the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Willys is where things get serious. It starts from the Sport content, adds key upgrades beyond the Sport S, and brings the suspension, axles and tires closer to a Rubicon without going all the way to that price point.

Should I get a Wrangler Willys instead of a Sport or Sport S?

If you mostly drive on pavement, a Sport S usually covers what you need. If you actually plan to hit trails, gravel, or deep snow and want the locking rear axle, heavier axles and real off-road tires already on the Jeep, the Willys is worth a hard look.

Where the Willys fits in the Wrangler lineup

Think of Willys as a step above Sport S in off-road hardware. You still get the same modern interior and tech that arrived with the recent Wrangler refresh, but Willys swaps in heavy-duty axles, a locking rear differential, Willys specific suspension tuning and real off-road tires. It stops short of the full Rubicon hardware, which keeps pricing more approachable.

  • Built off the 2026 Sport content with key hardware upgrades
  • More off-road focused than Sport and Sport S
  • Less extreme (and less expensive) than Rubicon
  • Available as gas Willys and Willys 4xe
  • Available Xtreme 35 inch Tire Package for maximum stance and clearance
Is Willys really that different from a Sport S?

Yes. A Sport S mostly upgrades comfort and safety features. Willys adds the axles, locker, gears, tires and suspension that change how the Jeep behaves off-road. If you care more about dirt and snow than chrome and trim, Willys lines up better than a loaded Sport S.

2026 Wrangler Willys (gas) overview

Willys hardware and capability

The gas Willys takes the Wrangler Sport foundation and layers on serious trail hardware straight from the factory.

  • 2.0L Turbo I 4 with 8 speed automatic transmission (standard)
  • Heavy duty Dana 44 axles
  • E locker rear axle with conventional front differential
  • 4.10 rear axle ratio
  • Willys specific suspension tuning
  • Off Road Plus Mode
  • Four Wheel Drive swing gate decal

All of that sits on LT285/70R17 off road tires and 17 inch Black painted wheels, so you are not buying a Willys and then immediately paying again for wheels and tires that match the badge.

Interior and comfort on Willys

Inside, Willys feels closer to a Sport S with extra trail ready touches instead of a stripped base model.

  • Uconnect 5 with 12.3 inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Cloth seats with Willys specific trim and stitching
  • Auxiliary switches prewired from the factory
  • Mopar All Weather Floor Mats
  • Full floor console and rear in floor storage bin
  • Speed sensitive power locks and power windows
Does a Willys ride rougher than a Sport or Sport S?

The heavier suspension and off-road tires give Willys a more planted, firm feel than a Sport S, especially over broken pavement. Around Aurora and Naperville it still works as a daily driver, but you will feel more road texture than you would on all season street tires.

Exterior and styling details

The Willys trim looks the part even before you see the axles and tires.

  • Willys hood decal
  • Rock protection sill rails
  • Molded in color bumpers with Gloss Black accents
  • Molded in color Rubicon highline flares
  • Black grille
  • LT285/70R17 off road tires
  • 17 inch Black painted wheels (with 17 inch machined wheels and Black pockets included when you add the Xtreme 35 package)
  • Deep tint rear and quarter windows
  • Class II hitch receiver with 4 and 7 pin wiring
  • Front LED fog lamps, LED premium reflector headlamps and LED DRL accents

Safety and driver assistance

Willys keeps the trail focus but still adds key driver assistance features Wrangler shoppers expect now.

  • Enhanced Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Off Road Plus Mode for improved control on loose surfaces
  • Available Safety Group with Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection and ParkSense Rear Park Assist
  • Advanced multistage air bags and side curtain air bags
Is Willys a good daily driver around town?

If you want a Jeep that feels more serious than a Sport S but still handles commuting and grocery runs, Willys lands in a good spot. The ride is firmer and tires are more aggressive, but for a lot of Jeep buyers that is a feature, not a downside.

2026 Wrangler Willys 4xe overview

How Willys 4xe changes the formula

Willys 4xe takes the Willys off-road hardware and adds Jeep’s plug in hybrid powertrain. You get the same locking rear axle and Willys suspension, with electric torque layered on top of the turbo engine.

  • 2.0L Turbo I 4 plug in hybrid with 8 speed automatic
  • Selec Trac full time 4WD
  • Heavy duty Dana 44 axles with E locker rear
  • 4.10 rear axle ratio and Willys suspension tuning

Interior and comfort on Willys 4xe

Inside, Willys 4xe leans into comfort and tech while keeping the Willys personality.

  • Heated front seats and heated steering wheel
  • Automatic temperature control
  • 7 inch TFT color cluster with hybrid and energy info
  • 115 volt power outlet
  • Premium door trim panels with bright interior accents
  • Front seat charge only USB ports

Exterior Willys 4xe details

The 4xe version adds its own look on top of the Willys hardware.

  • Automatic LED headlamps, fog lamps, taillamps and DRLs
  • 18 inch Gray painted machined wheels with all season or all terrain tires (depending on package)
  • Body color fender flares and unique front and rear bumpers with Silver bezels on certain builds
  • Silver grille inserts
  • Keyless Enter n Go proximity entry
  • Remote Start System
  • Black fuel filler door
Is the Willys 4xe a better choice than the gas Willys?

If you have a place to plug in at home and most of your driving is short trips around Aurora, Naperville or Batavia, the Willys 4xe gives you electric running for part of the week with the same Willys hardware. If you do long highway drives and never plan to plug in, the gas Willys keeps things simpler.

Xtreme 35 inch Tire Package on Willys

What the Xtreme 35 package adds

The Xtreme 35 inch Tire Package turns Willys into a much more serious off-road platform right from the factory.

  • Antilock 4 wheel disc performance brakes
  • Dana M210 wide heavy duty tube front axle
  • Dana M220 full float wide rear axle
  • 35 inch LT315/70R17C tires
  • 35 inch tire suspension tuning
  • 17 inch machined aluminum wheels with Black pockets
  • 4.56 rear axle ratio (without 4.88 ratio)
  • Antispin differential rear axle
  • Wheel flare extensions
  • Mopar Tailgate Reinforcement System and Oversized Spare Tire Modification Kit
  • Mopar Jack Base and injection molded Black rear bumper
Do I really need the Xtreme 35 package on a Willys?

If you want the tallest stance and maximum clearance from the factory, or you would add 35s later anyway, the package makes sense. If you stay on mild trails and daily driving, the standard Willys LT285 tires already give you a big jump over a Sport S without the extra height and cost.

What is new for the 2026 Wrangler Willys?

Most of what people like about Willys carries over from 2025, including the Dana 44 axles, locking rear, Willys suspension and LT285 off road tires. The 2026 Willys focuses more on how packages are bundled and how it lines up against Sport S and Rubicon.

  • Xtreme 35 inch Tire Package content and availability refined for 2026
  • Packaging and option groups cleaned up to make it easier to order popular combinations
  • LED lighting and safety packages remain easy add ons for most builds
  • Color and wheel availability adjusted versus 2025, depending on build
Should I pick a 2025 or 2026 Wrangler Willys?

If the equipment is the same and pricing is close, the 2026 Willys is the easier story. You get the updated package structure and the latest build sheet. If you find a 2025 Willys with the exact options you want at a strong discount, that still makes sense, but most shoppers lean toward the newer 2026 setup.

If you want to see the differences in person instead of staring at build codes, the team at River Front Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram can walk you through gas Willys and Willys 4xe inventory, with and without the Xtreme 35 package, so you can match the Jeep to how you actually plan to use it.

Why Jeep Still Builds a Willys

You will hear people say the Wrangler Willys is “old school Jeep.” That is not a slogan. The entire Willys name exists because Jeep was born out of a military contract that demanded a small, tough vehicle that could go anywhere and survive anything. What Willys-Overland built for the U.S. Army in the 1940s became the blueprint for every 4x4 that followed.

Where it started

In 1940, the U.S. Army sent out requirements for a light reconnaissance vehicle. Out of 135 automakers invited, only three companies even responded: Bantam, Ford and Willys. Willys-Overland delivered its first prototype, the “Quad,” in just 75 days. That truck set the basic layout for the Jeep design the entire world recognizes now.

  • 4x4 drivetrain
  • Simple, durable construction
  • Light weight for transport and battlefield use
  • Open-body design for visibility and flexibility

The Willys MA and MB

Willys refined the design into the MA and later the MB. The MA was built for Lend-Lease duties and went to Allied forces, while the MB became the American workhorse. Soldiers relied on it for everything from hauling gear to handling patrol runs, towing, field repairs and, in true Jeep fashion, whatever else they dreamed up. The MB earned its reputation the hard way on every front of World War II.

  • Steering column gearshift on early MA models
  • Rounded cutouts and revised panels to reduce weight
  • Field kits for desert, snow and deep-water operations
  • Could mount .30 or .50 caliber machine guns
  • Carried twice its rated load and kept moving

General George Marshall called the Jeep “America’s greatest contribution to modern warfare.” Reporters wrote about soldiers forming emotional bonds with their Jeeps, because they trusted them to survive the mission. One MB even earned a Purple Heart.

Civilian life and the first CJ

After the war, Willys-Overland pivoted the MB into a civilian version called the CJ. It was designed for farmers, tradesmen and anyone who needed a tool that could replace a tractor, tow equipment, run power tools or crawl through fields without breaking a sweat. The CJ kicked off the entire consumer Jeep lineup.

  • CJ-2A marketed as an “All-Around Farm Work-Horse”
  • Could run auxiliary equipment through a PTO system
  • Upgraded suspension, better cooling and improved gearing
  • “Willys” embossed on the hood and windshield frame

How that heritage shows up in the modern Willys

The modern Wrangler Willys isn’t a nostalgia badge. It is the trim that stays closest to the original Jeep mission. A locking rear axle, heavy-duty Dana 44s, real off-road tires, rock rails and the upright Jeep stance trace directly back to what Willys-Overland engineered under wartime pressure. It is the simplest way to buy a Wrangler that feels built for dirt the moment you turn the key.

Why is the trim still called Willys?

The name honors the company that created the original military Jeep. Willys-Overland designed the machine that proved what a small, tough 4x4 could do. Today’s Willys trim keeps that same simple, capable spirit alive without jumping to the extreme hardware and price of a Rubicon.

I’ve been buying vehicles from River Front Chrysler, Jeep & Dodge since 2017, and over the holiday weekend we just purchased our 7th vehicle from them. That alone says a lot about the trust and confidence we have in this dealership. Since day one, John Provenzano has taken care of my family’s vehicle needs and has always gone above and beyond. He is personable, accountable, and truly listens to what we need rather than trying to push us into something that doesn’t fit. He takes the time to make the process easy, stress-free, and personal. If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about finding the right vehicle for you and your family, I highly recommend asking for John. We’ll definitely continue coming back!

We recently got our ProMaster from River Front Ram Truck Center, and I have to say Miles was the best to work with. He was very transparent, straightforward, and made the whole process feel easy. It wasn’t just Miles either — everyone at the dealership was honest, helpful, and really cared about making sure we got what we wanted. Buying a van can usually feel stressful, but they made the whole ProMaster buying experience smooth and simple. This is honestly the best van we’ve ever had, and I really appreciate Miles for helping us through everything and making sure we were taken care of. Thank you, Miles!

They have always been the dealer of choice.

I went to dealership for service recall not expecting to buy a new car. I found a new car while browsing the inventory which matched my desires and needs unexpectedly. They were gracious enough to allow me to take the car home and show it to my wife. Then they made the purchase of same easier than one might expect. They have always been the dealer of choice in my three previous purchases for care and service. I would (and have) recommend this dealership to anyone seeking a new vehicle.

Great customer service. Clean. Friendly and GREAT hot chocolate while you wait. The online sales person was there to greet us as we walked in, and then she handed it over to the sales rep, Tracey, to complete the sale. Vinnie from finance was really friendly and efficient! This process is dreaded by many, but everyone at River Front made it go as smooth as can be and we were out of there in less than 2 hours, which is impeccable timing for the car sales industry.

He went above and beyond to get the warranty coverage. The warranty company was less than cooperative but Ezra made things work for us. He is truly an asset to your company.

Recently purchased a used Ram at this dealership. Miles and Trish went above and beyond in terms of communication, ensuring the vehicle was checked out and prepped properly, and even followed up continuously after the sale on a few paint touch-ups. First time I actually enjoyed purchasing a vehicle. They made it hassle-free. Would definitely consider coming back in the future.

Highly recommend!

Purchased a new 2025 Jeep Wrangler today. I found River Front online and I worked primarily with Jim S who was great to work with. Communication was great and the buying process was efficient. There was ZERO pressure to buy all those "extras" most dealers push. I felt like the pricing was fair, I was treated respectfully and I would definately go back for my next Jeep! Overall a great buying experience - highly recommend!
