Until money really starts to grow on trees, it’s something that we cherish, and any way get the most out of it is a plus. KBB.com recently named the ’10 Most Affordable SUVs’, and one to make the list was none other than the Jeep Patriot.

Starting under $18,000, the Compass is an easy transition for those looking to get into the Jeep family. The SUV seats 5, offers a Sport and Latitude model which features the smaller 2.0-liter engine with FWD, while the Limited trim gets 4WD and a 2.4-liter engine. Fuel efficiency varies on the trim but can get as high 28-mpg highway – a respectable number in the compact SUV-class.

Two packages that would appeal to Jeep-lovers are Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II Off-Road. The Freedom I Package offers full-time 4WD, which is for year-round peace of mind. The Freedom II package, however, offers a 2nd-gen CVT transaxle with low range, 17-in all-terrain tires and skid plates, tow hooks and fog lights.

Standard equipment for the Latitude trim includes heated front seats, power outlet and keyless entry. The Limited model adds leather-trimmed seats, automatic climate control, power driver’s seat, the larger engine and a more powerful audio system.

Optional features include power windows, air conditioning and Bluetooth for the Sport model, and an infotainment and navigation system with 6.5-in touch screen in the Latitude and Limited model. The Limited also offers a Boston Acoustics sound system with 9 speakers – with two flipping down from the tailgate.
