Even though the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade isn’t expected to hit showroom floors until later this year, it is already one of the most talked-about vehicles to arrive in quite some time.

Designed in America and built in Italy, the Jeep Renegade is a small crossover that’s positioned alongside its brothers, the Jeep Compass and Patriot. With a traditional, yet still-rugged exterior, there’s no question it’s part of the Jeep family. The Renegade uses Jeep’s new ‘small-wide 4×4 architecture’, which marries Fiat’s small-wide platform and their own 4×4 architecture. Under the hood sits either a 2.4L Tigershark (9-speed automatic) or a 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine (6-speed manual), with both versions getting an estimated EPA rating in the 30’s.

The Jeep Renegade’s base model will come standard with front-wheel drive, but full-time 4×4, or “Jeep Active Drive” will be available. The adventurous Trailhawk edition features a taller ride height and clearance, including 17-in wheels, hill descent control and 4WD with lower gearing which will help when slowly scaling steep surfaces.

Take a step inside, and you’ll notice features not typically found in entry-level crossovers, such as the available “My Sky” removable roof panels, leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and Selec-Terrain traction control, which will offer dynamic modes for snow, sand, mud and mountain. The Uconnect Infotainment System features hands-free calling and a 5- and a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Safety systems include a rearview camera, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
